Gad Khalsa 1 - 2 Mickleover Jubilee Dragons

The match kicked off on a bright dry, December morning with a good nip in the air. Underfoot was boggy making it difficult for our usual flowing play.

Gad Khalsa have improved immensely making it difficult for us to break them down. Half way through the first half, Dan L kicked his usual excellent clearance finding Tom G who played Ben C in with a lovely pass. Ben C showed great composure in front of goal side stepping the keeper before slotting the ball home giving us a deserved lead.

Gad Khalsa had some good moves of their own with Dan L making a fantastic save to keep us in the lead. Both Ben J and Ted W were their usual solid selves in defence Tom G picked the ball up in the middle of the park then played it wide to Nathan who playing a sweet through ball across the goal for Will F to miss from close range.

The second half started with rain clouds looming and us keeping up the pressure on Gad Khalsa. Nathan H had some excellent runs down the wing with us unlucky not to capitalise.

Tom G’s passing was excellent with Ollie H being played in twice, unlucky not to hit the net. Gad Khalsa started to turn on the pressure with their efforts being rewarded with a deflection off one of our defenders finding our net. Unlucky Mickleover, but well deserved Gad Khalsa.

This only inspired us on to want to win even more. We were pushing forward giving it our all to try and get the winner. We got a corner with only a few minutes to go. Ollie H crossed a lovely ball in from the right finding Tom G perfectly placed to head the ball home into the keepers bottom left hand corner.

A finer header you won’t see with a celebration to match.

Every member of the squad played a vital part in this game. Dan so safe in goals, Ted and Ben J assured in defence working so well together. Ollie’s tireless running and passing, Nathan’s shooting and crossing, Tom’s tackling and heading, Ben C control and goal scoring, Will F tackling and passing. Sam although didn’t get on the field, never moaned and encouraged the team.

At the end of the season we will hopefully look back at 12 December as the day those 3 points won us the league.

A great team effort and one of the best games of football I have seen for a long, long time.

Due to recent housing developments, Mickleover has now become a popular source to recruit youngsters so we have to stretch our boundaries to compensate.

Incidentally, both girls and boys can officially compete at this age group and up to 11 years old.

Training on Wednesday evening at Vicarage Park, Mickleover.

We are continually on the look out, not only for youngsters, but for parents who want to join in as potential managers/coaches all of whom are fully supported by our club in terms of kit and equipment and child welfare issues etc.
